Complete Admission Guide for Bachelor, Master Applicants | Italy

🔹Bachelor Admission Tests in Italy

For Bachelor programs, Italy uses national, standardized online admission tests managed by 👉 CISIA

They are required by many universities for admission into Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Science, and several other programs.

There are two main types of Bachelor admission tests for 2026–27:

1. TOLC – Test Online CISIA

(Traditional system, still used by many universities.)

TOLC is a computer-based test that evaluates a student’s readiness for university studies.

Main features:

  • Fully online or test-center based

  • Multiple-choice questions

  • Different versions: TOLC-I, TOLC-E, TOLC-S, TOLC-B, etc., depending on the course

  • Automatically generated personalized test

  • Valid for many universities across Italy

Typical sections include: (depends TOLC types)

  • Logic

  • Mathematics

  • Reading and comprehension

  • Problem-solving

  • English

2. CEnT-S: The New Admission Test

Many universities are now switching from TOLC to CEnT-S, a newly introduced standardized entry exam.

Key characteristics:

  • Fully online

  • Remote proctoring

  • Unified structure for all universities

  • More modern scoring system

  • Available in an international-friendly interface, including an English version for foreign applicants

  • Designed to replace TOLC gradually in many fields

What CEnT-S tests:

  • Mathematics
  • Reasoning on texts and data
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology

📝 Which Test Will You Take?

It depends on the university:

  • Some universities still accept TOLC

  • Many have started using CEnT-S

  • You must check the specific course’s admission notice

🔹Master’s Admission Test in Italy

Master’s (Laurea Magistrale) programs do not use CISIA / TOLC / CENTS.

Instead, universities evaluate applicants directly, using one of the following:

1. Online Interview (Most Common)

A short video call with professors where they check:

  • Your academic background

  • Motivation

  • Subject understanding

  • Course suitability

Duration: 10–20 minutes

2. Internal Online Written Test

Some departments may conduct their own exam, which may include:

  • Subject-specific multiple-choice questions

  • Logic and reasoning

  • Basic academic comprehension

These tests are unique to each university.

3. Document-Based Evaluation Only

Many Master’s programs admit students without any test, based solely on:

  • Bachelor degree

  • Transcript

  • Course match

  • CV / motivation letter

  • Biology
